Fog Island, acrylic on board varnished in satin, 24″x18″ (25″x19″ framed), 2021
Take a look at the photos of the framed painting on a darker, overcast day compared to the photos of the the unframed painting on a bright, sunny day – this can give an idea of how the painting can change through out the day or depending on where it is hung.
If the atmosphere in the mountains is just right, the effect can be mystical. The scenery can feel almost other worldly. I find that this is true for me when I see the sinking fog in the mountains. The high peeks are peeking from a light blanket of moisture. The feeling is so mysterious and a bit eerie. It always makes me think of fairytales. In my painting it is dusk and the fog just rolled in. The full moon is rising and lighting up the landscape below. This creates a dim kind of light where the colors feel like they are fading away into the night yet there is a sort of light that highlights the main features of the vista.
