Summer Solstice

Description

What I love about the lotus flower is that it follows the cycle of light, opening up during the day and closing at night – rebirth is a symbol that I am particularly drawn to. The lotus flower inspires me to begin each day fresh and clean. Furthermore, it is a sign of enlightenment – breaking through the darkness. I love looking back on times when I broke through the darkness inside, learned something new about life around me or about myself. For me lotus is a beautiful reminder of the potential we have when we open up to the light.

Recently I’ve found myself in murky waters when it comes to my creative process and work habits. I think this is a common theme for many artists and all of us humans in general. Its not a place I want to be in and I am taking little steps to make improvements. This is a journey of realizing how to let go of some of what is having a negative effect on my well being while also realizing how to bring back or add other more positive habits that bring me joy. Its not easy but the effort to start each day with the goal to improve is what I am currently focusing on. I decided to make this warm, summer version of my lotus flower to mark my new journey on the Summer Solstice. Creating it felt so good and looking at it now reminds me of how much we are capable of when we take the time to try.
